Swedish Jazz musician. Began to play clarinet and saxophone as a 13 year old, but changed for baritone-sax at 21. He then studied classical music at the Music Academy to be concert pianist, and at that time - 1947 - he also wrote a Piano Concerto and a Sinfonietta. But it was the baritone-sax that was to become his musical future. He had a scarse gift for the instrument and for jazz music. He first played in different dancing orchestras, like Charles Redland's and Leon Landgren's. He also played with popular Seymour and Arthur Österwall's orchestra. In 1950 he teamed with renowned sax-player Zoot Sims, and he came to play with musicians like Arne Domnerus, Weine Renliden and Georg Riedel among others. In 1954 he received the American jazz-magazine DownBeat's award "Best Newcomer of the year", somewhat unusual for a European musician at that time. Later he was touring Italy with Chet Baker in 1959, and also made several gigs there with Gerry Mulligan. He is concidered one of the most important jazz musicians of Sweden with great international recognition, and his impact is considerable. Unfortunately he lost himself in drugs and alcohol, which eventually led to his untimely death.
