Sandra was born February 8, 1937 in Kearney, Nebraska to Gene and Eloise Kayton. When she was a child, the family moved from Nebraska to Bellingham, WA. She attended school in Bellingham until her senior year of high school, when the family moved to Anchorage, Alaska.
After high school, Sandra attended college at WA State University and took business classes in Bellingham. She worked for numerous businesses as a secretary, including the City of Bellingham, Chamber of Commerce and Western Washington University.
In 1966 Sandra married Robert Schmidt, and they moved to Deming in 1972. She enjoyed many talents including painting and crocheting.
Sandra was preceded in death by her father, Gene; mother, Eloise; and brother, Royce Kayton.
She is survived by her husband, Robert Schmidt; son, Kurtis (Katy) Schmidt and grandchildren, Darren and Megan; son, Dale (Rebecca) Schmidt; sister, Loie Haggen; brother, Gary (Jo Ann) Kayton; sister-in-law, Viola Kayton; along with numerous nieces and nephews.
Sandra requested a service not be attended in her memory, and all memorials be sent to Whatcom Hospice.
