Juanita Ferguson
GALVESTON — Juanita Ferguson, 99, received her reward of eternal rest on Sunday, March 4, 2012, at Oceanview Care Center in Texas City.

Juanita was born February 13, 1913 in Giddings, Texas to the late Mack C. Rivers and Angeline Patrick Rivers. She was the third of ten siblings. Eight has preceded her in death. She attended school in Giddings, Texas, she met the love of her life Herman Ferguson, and they were joined in holy matrimony on January 28, 1939, and remained married for sixty six year until the Lord called him home in 2005. To this union was born their three children, Charles Edward (Chocky), Alice Marie (Teena) and Frederick (Peanut).

In February 1943 they relocated to Galveston. She was a homemaker, because she felt her duty was to be at home with her family. Her church home was Mount Olive Baptist Church and she remained faithful until her health failed. She was a missionary and very active in the Golden Stewards. She took great pride with her volunteering work in the community. She received several certificates of appreciation for her work.

She had a divine appointment that could not be cancelled on March 4, 2012, when the Lord fulfilled His promise to give her eternal rest.

She leaves with precious memories of her wonderful life, her three loving children, Charles Ferguson (Janice) of Buffalo, NY, Alice Marie Jackson of Sacramento, CA and Freddie Ferguson (Linda) of Galveston; four grandchildren, Gena and Kim Ferguson of St Louis, MO, Fred Jackson (Tiffany) of Sacramento, CA, Victoria Ferguson of Atlanta, GA; four great grandchildren, Ashley Orr and Justin Ferguson of St Louis, MO and Alexis and Alyssa Jackson of Sacramento, CA; one great great grandson, Baby Kaden; sister, Alice Cole of Detroit, Michigan; sisters in law, Lula Dobbins of Waco, TX, Betty Rivers of Detroit, Michigan and Eunice Glover of Los Angeles, CA; a host of nieces nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

Special thanks to her youngest son, Freddie and special niece, Willie Mae, who gave their love and tender care to her until the Lord called her home for eternal rest. We will remember her favorite phrase; “ If I can help somebody as I pass along the way, then my living won’t be in vain”

Visitation will begin at 9AM today, followed by a life celebration at 10:00AM at Mt Olive Baptist Church with Pastor Norris D. Burkley, Sr. officiating. Graveside service will be held at Peaceful Rest Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery in Giddings, TX at 3:30 PM.

The family would like to thank and express gratitude to Pastor Burkley and the Mt Olive Baptist church, Oceanview Healthcare Center staff: Kathleen, Yolunda Ramirez, Cecilia Vasquez, Luz Ramirez, Dr. Kaushik; UTMB 10_C, Central High School c/o 1965, Carolyn Webb, Hazel Henderson, Clora Otems, Gloria Ellisor, Fields-Johnson Family Mortuary.
