MRS. BERNICE CLAPP DIES AT HOSPITAL

Prominent Shelbyville Woman Stricken After Short Illness

Mrs. Bernice Clapp, age 42, of 209 Van Avenue, wife of Russell Clapp, assistant chief of Shelbyville police, died today at 6:00 am at the W. S. Major hospital where she was taken last Tuesday night for emergency treatment. She had been ill since Saturday. Death was caused by acute dilation of the heart.

Mrs. Clapp was born May 29, 1896, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. C. Campbell, of Shelbyville, and was forty-two years, seven months, and three days of age at the time of death. On June 1, 1917, she was united in marriage to Russell Clapp, and to this union two children were born, one of whom, Rosemary, at home, survives. The deceased was preceded in death eleven years ago by her mother and a brother Merritt. A half-brother, Hurley, also preceded her in death.

Survivors, besides the husband and daughter are her father, at home, four brothers, Joseph, Max, Charles, and Alfred. Alfred is at present athletic coach at Kokomo high school.

Mrs. Clapp was a member of the First Christian church in this city and of the American Legion Auxiliary. She served as a Republican vice co-chairman and a member of the advisory board of the Republican tenth district committee during the recent political campaign.

Funeral services will be conducted Saturday at 2:30 p.m. at the C. F. Fix and Son Mortuary with Dr. J.W. McFall officiating, and burial will be made in Forest Hill cemetery. Friends may call at the mortuary this evening and until Friday at 1:00 p.m., after which they may call at the late home until 11:00 a.m. Saturday.
