JANE CHILDS MITCHELL BARR, 79, of Duncan, Okla., died Tuesday, Jan. 6, 2009, in Duncan.
She was born Aug. 20, 1929, in Houston, Texas, the daughter of Roy Mitchell and Bernice Samples Mitchell. She married Nelson Herman Barr on April 20, 1988, in Fort Bend County, Texas.
Jane was retired and had worked as a security officer for Pinkerton, and also was a truck driver.
Survivors include her husband, Nelson of the home; four sons, Arlen W. Irving of Riverside, Calif., David D. Irving and his wife Terri of Broken Arrow, Roger L. Irving of Alvera, Texas, and Stewart A. Irving and his wife Rachel of Grand Prairie, Texas; a brother, Marvin Mitchell; a sister-in-law, Norma Jeanette Dohr of Onaway, Mich.; a brother-in-law, Orville C. Barr of Lawrence-Livermore, Calif.; 15 grandchildren; and 24 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her grandmother, Laura Jane Samples; and a sister, Blake, in 1991.
A private family memorial service was held at 10 a.m. today in Don Grantham Funeral Home Chapel, with the Rev. Tracy L. Wilson officiating. Interment will be at a later date at Fort Sill National Cemetery in Elgin.
