Herman J. Hicks
On July 13, 1925 in Grapeland, Texas, Herman J. Hicks was born to Rosalie and Herbert Hicks. He was one of ten children born into the loving Hicks family. Seeking a better life, he moved to Houston and then to La Marque, where he remained until his death. Herman was a faithful member of Rising Star Missionary Baptist Church; and was committed to the ministries of the church. He was a dutiful employee of Todd Shipyard where he retired after many years of diligent service. He was an avid member of various civic organizations; and was a true grass-root Democrat working tireless in Galveston County.

Herman’s earthly journey came to a close on March 24, 2012 with his loving family by his side. He is preceded in death by his parents, siblings and other loved ones.

Herman’s love and memory will always be remembered by his loving and devoted wife, Dara Hicks; his sons, Herman Jr., Donald, Darius and Alfred, his daughters, Gwenda, Tanisha and Shanora; 7 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; a his sister, Hattie Blanton; Mother-in-law, Marva Bagby; devoted nieces, Dorothy Bennett and Shirley Davis; devoted sisters-in-law, Lena Bell Hicks, Ruth Hicks and Pier Walter; devoted brother-in-law, Wilbert “Popsy” Williams; two sons-in-law, Nathan Sampson and Kevin George and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and in-laws.

Services will be held at the Mainland Funeral Home Chapel in La Marque with public viewing on Friday, March 30th from 3:00 to 8:00 PM; and Memorial Services at 5:00 PM Saturday, March 31, 2012.
