Estel Earl Hoover passed away at his home on Dec. 2 after a lingering illness. He was born in Lisbon, on June 10, 1878, next to the youngest in a family of 10 of Jonathan and Mary Blessing Hoover. The parents coming from Pennsylvania, were among the pioneer settlers in Lisbon. Estel had lived in Lisbon all but seven of his 69 years. On Feb. 12, 1902 he was married to Dora Wickham and to this union was born a son, Earl.
In 1901 Mr. Hoover started work as lineman for the telephone company. In 1905 the family moved to Clinton where he was employed with the Bell Telephone company and Northwestern railroad. Returning to Lisbon in seven years he resumed work with the local telephone company and continued until his death. Although the past year he was unable to be on active duty.
Mr. Hoover was a member of the United Brethren church for many years and later affiliated with the Federated church. He had served as a member of the church board.
Surviving are his wife, the son Earl and daughter-in-law, Lillian of Danville, Iowa, one grandson Harold and wife Peggy of Davenport; two sisters, Mrs. W. H. Runkle now residing in Schenectady, N.Y., and Mrs. W. L. Kynett of Lisbon; one brother, W. H. Hoover of Mount Vernon and a number of nieces and nephews. Five brothers and one sister preceded him in death.
