ALEXANDRIA, IN-James R. Tobey, 80, went to his eternal home from his residence on Sunday, January 11, 2015 following a brief illness.

Affectionately known as "Tobey," he was born on July 6, 1934 in Hartford City to Omri and Alice (Sebring) Tobey and has resided in the Alexandria area most of his lifetime. Tobey was a graduate of Alexandria High School-Class of 1953 where he was in the band for 4 years and was the Alexandria Tiger Mascot. He served in the United States Marines Corps from 1954 to 1956. Tobey retired as a tool and die maker from Delco-Remy in 1993 after 29 years of employment. Tobey was a member of the Alexandria Athletic Boosters and the Alexandria "A" Men's Club. He has worked as a Funeral Assistant with Owens Memorial Services in Alexandria for 20 years. Tobey's warm smile has greeted hundreds of visitors at the funeral home chapels down through the years. He was a long time and active member of the Alexandria Christian Congregation Church where he has served as a deacon, elder, trustee and an unofficial member of the Ladies Aide. Many folks have been blessed by Tobey's Sunday morning greeting phone calls and Happy Birthday phone calls. Tobey had been active with the Christian Congregation Church 4-H Food tent for several years as well. He has been a member of the Tuesday Morning Men's Coffee Cup Fellowship of Alexandria. His faith and his family were vitally important to Tobey. His warm smile will be fondly remembered.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and his beloved wife-Noreen (Beeman) Tobey in 2009, his brother-Richard Dick" Tobey, sister-Kate Tobey

Services celebrating Tobey's life and his faith will take place on Thursday, January 15, 2015 at 11 am in the Christian Congregation Church, 11015 North 300 East, Alexandria with Pastor Jerry Young officiating. Interment will follow in Vinson Memorial Cemetery at Summitville. Military honors will be provided by the United States Marine Corps and the Elwood VFW Honors Team. Friends may call at the Christian Congregation Church on Wednesday, January 14, 2015 from 4 pm to 8 pm or after 10 am on Thursday prior to the services.
