Funeral services will be held at 1:00PM Wednesday, January 14, at First United Methodist Church of Hawkinsville, with Rev. Richard Soper and Rev. John Walker officiating, with interment in Milan City Cemetery.
Mr. Wetherington was a native of Milan, GA, a member of First United Methodist Church of Hawkinsville and CFO and Director of Planter's First Bank of Hawkinsville for over 30 years. He was a graduate of the Georgia Bankers Association Schools of Banking and Compliance at the University of Georgia, a graduate of The Graduate School of Banking of the South at Louisiana State University and a graduate of School and Bank Investments & Financial Management at the University of South Carolina. He was a former Director and Chairman of the Hawkinsville Housing Authority, a past member and Director of the Hawkinsville Rotary Club, a past member of the Hawkinsville Lions Club and a member of the Hawkinsville Development Authority and the Arts Council. He had a special passion for the Ocmulgee River and the Georgia Coast. He enjoyed fishing was an avid motorcycle enthusiast and enjoyed spending time at Saint Simons Island. He was son of the late Susan Herring Wetherington & Jack Burns Wetherington, Sr.
Survivors: Daughter - Kate Lynn Wetherington of Valdosta; 2 Sons - Andrew Wetherington, Jr. (Dr. Sandy Mager) of Saint Simons and Cody Wetherington of Hawkinsville; 2 Grandchildren - Drew Wetherington and Dylan Wetherington; Sister - Dawn Williams (Sam) of Dublin; 3 Brothers - Jack Wetherington, Jr. (Beverly) of LaGrange, Paul Wetherington (Susan) of Dublin and Mark Wetherington of Louisville, KY; 6 Nieces and Nephews; Special Family Friend - Darlene Anderson of Hawkinsville.
The family may be contacted at the Wetherington residence, 62 South Jackson Street, Hawkinsville, and will receive friends in Southerland Funeral Chapel from 6:30PM-8:00PM Tuesday, January 13. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions to the Methodist Children's Home or Pine Pointe Hospice of Macon.
