In May 1861, Henry Maxwell Sweat enlisted in Capt. Hardy's company F of the Third Florida Regiment with his command went to TN in 1862, and subsequently was engaged in the battle of Perryville, KY, also that at Murfreesboro, TN, under General Breckenridge. In 1863, he went wit his command to Mississippi and was in the battle of Jackson, Miss. under General Johnston. He also saw action a Chickamauga, Missionary Ridge and other battles of north Georgia. In 1865 he was in a battle with General Sherman at Bentonville, NC and surrendered shortly afterwards. Source: Memoirs of Florida by Rowland H. Rerick

Parents: Florida Pioneer Samuel Sweat and Susan Mariah Walden. He married Eliza Barton. According to articles in the FL Times Union, on July 21, 1905 while in an altercation with an employee on his front porch, Henry Maxwell was stabbed. He died 4 days later.
