Emma Christine Carlsson Peterson McDowell was born 10 Nov 1864 in Sweden. She came to the US when she was about 19. She lived in NY for a year as a bond servant to pay off the cost of the trip over.

She moved to Tunica, MS and married Andrew William Peterson, Nov. 3, 1889. They had four children, Lena, Rosa, Florence and William Otto Peterson. Andrew died in 1901 and Emma remarried Isaiah McDowell, Aug. 3, 1902. They had two children, Ted and Pearl (my grandmother)
She died Jan. 15, 1930.

Emigrated 1887-08-12 New York, USA 42).
On August 12, 1886, Emma Christina leaves Sjösås and travels to Gothenburg then as a passenger on the steamship "Romeo" that leaves Gothenburg for Hull in England on August 26, 1887. Emma Christina's destination is New York. In Hull, they probably take a train to Liverpool, where they board a ship to New York.

From the stories I've heard and read she was a lovely person. Mr Peterson was a nice man and a good husband and father. My great-grandfather, Isaiah, was a drunk and was not good to her. He left her and took their son Ted with him, but would bring him to visit and they'd stay the night. Back then there was nothing she could do.
