Mary was the daughter of Samuel Merrick Simpson and Mariah Hester Peddicord.

Mary Frances Simpson was born at Clinton, Ill., August 19, 1862, and departed this life at Oklahoma City, Okla., on September 18, 1941, at the age of 79 years and 29 days. She lived in Clinton until she was five when she moved with her parents to Champaign county, Ill. On December 21, 1888, she was united in marriage to John N. Deist. She continued to live on a farm in Champaign county for a time and then moved to Harper county in 1894. She lived near Harper until 1903 when she moved to town. She lived in Harper until the passing of her husband in 1938. Since then she has lived with her daughter, Mrs. Frank Bryan, Duncan, Okla. She was preceded in death by her brother, Milzor Simpson, her husband, John N. Deist, and her son, Cecil Deist. She was a good Christian woman and always did her part in church work. She was a life-long member of the Methodist Church. Those who knew her always spoke of her friendliness, daintiness, and helpfulness. She leaves to mourn her passing three brothers: F. S. Simpson, Blair, Neb., D. M. Simpson, Kenosha, Wisc., and Chas. H. Simpson, Tribune; three daughters: Mrs. C. M. Edwards, Denver, Colo., Mrs. Frank Bryan, Duncan, Okla., and Mrs. F. L. Walker, Winnemucca, Nevada; two sons: Dr. M. W. Deist, Chicago, Ill., and R. J. Deist, Chicago, Ill.; eight grandchildren; one great grandchild; and a host of other relatives and friends. Funeral services were held at the Methodist Church Sunday afternoon at 2:30 with the Rev. Glen Palmer officiating. Interment was in the Harper cemetery.
