Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, March 12, at Gilliam United Methodist Church. Rev. Jess Spurgin will officiate. Bethany Weiker, organist, will accompany Betty Moore as she sings "How Great Thou Art" and "The Old Rugged Cross." Pallbearers will be Bud Summers, Joe Summers, Brent Summers, Adrian Summers, Greg Meyer and Evan Summers. Visitation will be from 1 to 2 p.m. Sunday at the church. Burial will be in Gilliam Cemetery in Gilliam. Memorials are suggested to the church in care of Weiker Funeral Home in Slater.
Born Aug. 9, 1912, in Gilliam, she was the daughter of the late Henry C. Deis and Alice Chandler Deis. On July 29, 1934, in Gilliam, she married William E. Summers Sr., who preceded her in death Oct. 16, 1999. She was a member of Gilliam Baptist Church. She was a retired schoolteacher, having taught in numerous rural and city schools in the area before retiring in 1975. She was a member of the 42 Club, Saline County Retired Teachers Association and Delta Kappa sorority. She graduated from Stephens College in Columbia and later Missouri Valley College in Marshall.
Survivors include one son, Billy Summers and wife Lois Ann of rural Gilliam; four grandchildren, Bud Summers and wife Kim of Slater, Brent Summers and wife Shelle of Ames, Iowa, Joe Summers and wife Tori of Marshall and Kristin Meyer and husband Gary of Marshalltown, Iowa; eight great-grandchildren, Kaleigh Summers, Evan Summers, Blake Summers, Allea Summers, Adrian Summers, Isaac Summers, Lillianne Summers and Ian Meyer.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two sisters.
