John proudly served his country in the US Army Air Corps during WWII. He was a paint chemist and plant manager for Briggs Brothers Paint Company in Nashville and retired from Blue Ridge Paint and Talc Company in Henry, VA. He was an elder and song leader for the former Parkwood Church of Christ and current member of Goodlettsville Church of Christ. He was a photographer, golfer, gardener, handyman extraordinaire, and worked hard all his life to provide for his wife and family.
Preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Cynthia Rodgers, Frank Joyce, Milton Joyce, Beulah Johnson, and Ruth Shaw.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 69 ½ years, Mildred Joyce; daughters and sons-in-law, Rebecca Pack (Rolland), Joanna Sikes (Geoffrey), Geneva Wright (Dana), and Patricia Binkley (Bayron); grandchildren, Suzanne Pack Marrero (Efrain), John Pack, Paul Sikes, David Binkley (Kristin), Chris Binkley (Kara), Laura Sikes, Danielle Wright Ochoa (Chad), Dale Binkley (Allison) and Tara Wright; great-grandchildren, Jonathan Marrero, Lucy Marrero, Beau Binkley, and one soon to arrive.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held Tuesday, January 13, 2015, 9:45 a.m. in the chapel of Spring Hill Funeral Home with his sons-in-law officiating.
Interment will follow in Palmer Shelter Cemetery near Huntingdon, TN. His grandchildren will serve as active pallbearers and the elders of the former Parkwood Church of Christ will be honorary pallbearers.
The family would like to thank the staff of Maybelle Carter and Alive Hospice for the wonderful care they provided.
