The son of William Washington and Daughter Elizabeth Brady Bivens. He married Christina Matilda Kirkland on 14 May 1911 in Monroe County, Tennessee. They were the parents of eleven known children:
1. Roy Bivens, born and died in 1912.
2,Angus Eugene, born 1913.
3. Charles Gordon, born 1915, died 1958.
4. Roxie Ruby Mae, born 1917, died 1918.
5. George Washington, born 1919, died 1999.
6. Reba Mae, born 1922, died 2001.
7. William Guy, born 1926.
8. Mildred Faye, born 1930.
9. Alfred, a twin, born and died 1934.
10. Dalfred, a twin, born and died 1934.
11. Willis Willard, born 1935.

In 1900 US Census, he was living in Shuck Pen, Murray County, Georgia with his parents. In 1910 US Census, his family moved to Civil District 16 of Monroe County, Tennessee and he is not attending school. He is working as a farm laborer on the family farm as a wage earner. He is able to read and write. In 1920 US Census, he moved to Civil District 4 of Monroe County on Ballplay Road with his wife and own family, working as a farm laborer on his own farm on his own account while renting. In 1930 US Census, he and his family has not moved, still renting and owns no radio set. Not much had changed. In 1940 US Census, still no change. Have other sources of income. Graduated from the 7th grade.
