JAMESTOWN - Mrs. Ruth Gorham Davis, 95 died on Monday, January 30, 2012 at the Friends Home, West in Greensboro.

Born August 1, 1916 in Edgecombe County, NC to the late Minnie C. Johnson & Charles Henry Gorham. Ruth was a graduate of WCUNC (now UNCG). She was a member of Jamestown United Methodist Church, the Miller-Fortney Sunday School Class, the Church Chancel Choir and the Circle 4 of the Church. She was active in the Jamestown Garden Club, the Modern Book Club and was a charter member of the Double "M" Club (Modern Mothers) at the YWCA.

On June 28, 1938 she married George Drennen Davis who preceded her in death on January 18, 1992. Ruth was also preceded in death by her three sisters Louise Winstead, Martha Jo Hendrix and Sara Lawrence and her five brothers Thomas, Henry, Bill, Charles and Harvey Gorham.

Mrs. Davis is survived by a daughter Cynthia Davis Hassell of Greensboro, NC; a son Dr. N. Parke Davis II & his wife Dottie of Asheville, NC; a son G. Drennen Davis Jr. and his wife Shirley of Louisburg, NC. Ruth is also survived by three grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and her brother Philip Gorman of Greensboro, NC.

A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, February 1, 2012 at Jamestown United Methodist Church, 403 E. Main St., Jamestown, NC 27282 with the Reverend James Watford officiating. Interment will follow at Guilford Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1 p.m. until the time of service at the Church.
