Onnie Clayborne Hampton was born in Navarro County, Texas near Dawson and attended school in Navarro County. His parents were David Anderson Hampton and Amelia Melinda Hanora Elizabeth ( Bette ) Shay. He married Darville Beatrice Payne in Waco, Texas on 5 October 1946 and they had four children. One girl, Kay Hampton ( Musgrave ), and three boys, Boyd Earl Hampton, Jerry Clayborne Hampton and David Michael Hampton.
Onnie was a Navy veteran of World War II and worked for 22 years as a fireman for the Waco Fire Department retiring in 1965. He was a Life Member of Disabled American Veterans and a member of Edgefield Baptist Church.
He was survived by his wife, his four children, nine grandchildren. He was also survived by two sisters Addie B. McCulloch Burgess of Culman Alabama and Orlena Hampton Henderson of Hewitt Texas. He also had numerous friends.
