Brigadier General in the United States army. He led the fight against the Plains Indians.

Philip Reade was born at Lowell, the son of Henry and Rowena (Hildreth) Reade. After graduating public schools in Lowell he entered the United State Military Academy on July 1, 1864. On Oct 30, 1878 he married Miss Jessi Eaton of Troy, New York. His first service was seen as a 2nd Lt. with the 3rd United States Infantry.

In April 1872 he was appointed signal officer of the Department of Missouri by Gen Pope.

In 1875 when acting signal officer at Forth Whipple, VA he constructed military telegraph lines in NM, AZ and CA.

During all of his service he was one of the best rifle shots in the entire United State Army.

In the Spanish American War he was promoted for bravery under fire at Santiago on the recommendation of Gen. J. Ford Kent.

In all he served 44 years in the United State Army.
