Mary "Polly" (Wilks) Ballard was the second wife of William Franklin Ballard. Mary and Frank were married on 22 November 1900 by Rev. B. S. Funderburk. They had one child, Annetta Ballard.

Annetta was born 7 September 1901 in Chesterfield County, South Carolina and died in 1976. She married Rev. Julius Campbell and they resided in this area. It was Annetta and her husband who allowed Marie Gulledge Church Wiggins to copy the photograph of Annetta's father and his first wife, Sarah Elizabeth Lewis, that is posted on their memorials. And it was Annetta and her husband who gave Marie the Bible that had belonged to Annetta's father, William Franklin Ballard.

The following is an entry on a separate page in the Bible record of William Franklin Ballard. It seems likely that Joseph T. and Mary Wilks were the parents of Mary (Wilks) Ballard.

Joseph T. Wilks was borned 2 Jun 1824
Mary Wilks wife of Joseph T. Wilks was borned 9 Apr 1829
J. T. Wilks died 29 Jan 1903
Mary Wilks died 28 Aug 1915

Marie made an entry in her papers that Mary Wilks Ballard was buried at Ruby Cemetery. It is possible Mary has a tombstone there that has not yet been posted to Findagrave, but I can find no memorial for her. It's possible she has no marker.

UPDATE 16 May 2015:
Many thanks to Steve Campbell Hagwood - Anson Chesterfield - for finding the tombstones of Mary and her daughter Annetta, for his excellent photographs, and for sharing them. They are posted here and on Annetta's memorial with Steve's kind permission.
