1942 Sept Quarter death "registration"-

Name: Bloomfield, Mandel---Age: 20

District: Louth (Vol & Page: 7a & 539)


415 Squadron's Handley Page Hampden I (#AD762) aircraft, with an aircrew of four, had taken off from RAF North Coates on a convoy protection air operation. Because of engine problems, AD762 had to return to base. Thick fog made landing the Hampden difficult and, after several attempts, the aircraft crashed 2 miles away, near Donna Nook, taking the lives of the entire crew.

The airmen who perished in this accident were-

Flight Sergeant Roy Milton ENNIS,

Flight Sergeant John Henry LABELLE,

Warrant Officer Bud Dougal Ray McCOMB and

Flight Sergeant Mandel BLOOMFIELD.

Son of Harry L. and Rebecca ['Becky'] (née Shaw) Bloomfield of 123rd Street in Edmonton [father born in "Rumania"; mother born in Russia].


Flight Sergeant Mandel Bloomfield is commemorated on Page 59 of Canada's Second World War Book of Remembrance.

He is also commemorated by the Commonwealth War Graves Commission.
