Known as Smithy he was an old time fiddler. Although his son John Nelson (see link below) did not play the fiddle he learned to hum or whistle the tunes and in this way passed them down to his son Bob (1877-1953) who learned to play them. Bob in turn taught the tunes to his son Melvin (memorial # 61979116).
