Death claimed Neil M. Madsen, 54, this morning after a lingering illness from cancer.Mr. Madsen was born at Mt. Pleasant, September 21, 1873, the son of Andrew and Johanna Madsen, pioneer settlers of central Utah. He received his early education in the Mt. Pleasant grade schools and Mt. Pleasant academy of the L D S church. He married Miss Anna Wilcox, January 1, 1901.
Mr. Madsen became associated with the Union Mercantile company of Mt. Pleasant in 1894. He was a stockholder and director in the Union Wool and Livestock company in 1897, at which time his corporation shipped 1,000,000 pounds of wool. He became associated with Whitman, Farnsworth & Thayer, wool importers of Boston, in 1898, and purchased more than a half million pounds of wool in Utah for that firm that season.
Former mayor of Scofield, chairman of the county Democratic organization and chairman of the Twelfth senatorial district. Delegate to the Democratic national convention in San Francisco. Delegate to every state Democratic convention in Utah except the first one.
Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Anna W. Madsen; one son, Willis, deputy fish and game commissioner, and two daughters, Miss Alice and Miss Johannah Madsen of Price; one brother, Andrew C. Madsen and a sister, Mrs. Hilda Madsen Longsdorf of Mt. Pleasant.
