SWANZEY - Edith Rae (Berry) Armstrong, 94, formerly of Swanzey, NH, died Tuesday, Jan. 6, 2015, at Belknap County Nursing Home in Laconia, NH following a period of declining health. She was born in Marlborough on Jan. 12, 1920, the daughter of James W. and Agnes (Martin) Berry. She graduated from Keene High School in 1938 and went on to attend Hesser College.In 1939, she married Albert Armstrong in Winchester and settled in Keene, NH until 1950, at which time she and Albert relocated to Swanzey. Mrs. Armstrong worked for over 20 years as the town clerk in Swanzey and retired in 1985.She was an active member of the First Congregational Church of Swanzey, a member of the New Hampshire Town Clerks Association and served as its president from 1975 through 1976. Edith was also a member of the Executive Board of New Hampshire Cities and Towns and was a member of the Order of the Rainbow. She especially enjoyed her role as a principal cast member of the annual Old Homestead play in Swanzey, NH. Edith enjoyed knitting, crocheting, braiding rugs, reading, and particularly delighted in fishing with her husband, Albert. She was especially remembered as a kind and caring grandmother to her many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.She is survived by her husband of 75 years, Albert Armstrong, of Tilton, NH; her son, Russ Armstrong, of Peterborough; her daughters, Carol A. DeRocher of Lancaster and Patricia A. Posthuma of Vancouver, Wash.; eight grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her brother, Arthur Berry, and sister, Evelyn B. Perry.
