LOWVILLE - Carl H. Goutermout, 80 died Sunday morning at Lewis County Residential Health Care Facility, where he had been a resident since March 31, 1994.
A memorial service will be at 11:30 a.m. Friday at Virkler-Percoski Funeral Home with the Rev. Ronald VanLuven, pastor of United Church of Copenhagen, officiating. Burial will be in Rodman Cemetery in spring.
Calling hours will be 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Donations may be made to Barnes Corners United Methodist Church.

Surviving are two sons, Scott C., Lowville, and Lewis C., Aurora, Colo.; two stepsons, Weldon J. Watson, Dry Creek, La., and Stephen D. Watson, Watertown; two stepdaughters, Mrs. Edward (Wilma) Clemons, Copenhagen, and Mrs. Forrest (Laura) James, Fillmore; a sister, Mrs. Allen (Helen) Doyle, Copenhagen; 19 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Five brothers, George, Gardner, Sheridan, Henry and Louis and a sister, A[l]manda Mikulski, died before him.
Born Oct. 9, 1915 in the town of Montague, son of Ladett and Amanda Poor Goutermout, he attended rural schools in the town of Montague and married Cecil Roof Dec. 24, 1952, in Carthage Methodist Church. Mrs. Goutermout died Dec 1, 1994.

Mr. Goutermout worked for Lane Construction and helped build Interstate 81 from Watertown to the Thousand Islands Bridge. He worked for the town of Montague and was also the town's highway superintendent

He served in the Army during World War II and was stationed in New Guinea.
