Jimmy went to be with the Lord after an extended illness on January 6, 2015 at his home surrounded by his devoted family.
Born Jimmy Roe Sykes in Bells, TN, he was the eldest child of the late Waldo and Willie Mae Edwards Sykes. He was a Christian and a member of Woodland Baptist Church. The Sykes family moved to Jackson on Jimmy's 14th birthday. When Jimmy was 18 years old, he followed his father's footsteps building houses in Jackson. Later, he was taught to build cabinets by his mentor, Kelly Tubbs. As his work progressed, he became a Master Craftsman in Cabinetry. He supervised cabinet shops for Watlington Bros. Construction and City Lumber Co.Upon his retirement, he began working in his personal cabinet shop and building beautiful furniture, moldings, shutters, doors and cabinets.
His work can be seen in churches, schools, banks, restaurants, office buildings and beautiful homes throughout Jackson and W. TN., the latest being in the remodeling of the Tankersley Family Home Place in Bells, TN.
His hobbies in his younger years were water skiing, playing pool and bowling. Later hobbies were fishing, watching Braves baseball and UT football, but most of all, his wood working. He was a true artisan.
