She married Buell Johnson on April 18, 1947 in Stanton, MI.
After graduating from Montcalm-Ionia Bi-County Normal, she taught at Mt. Hope Country School north of Carson City for one year until her daughter was born.
She was a member of the Ferris Church of Christ in Vestaburg since 1983. She was active in PTA, women’s groups, and various church ministries. She liked to crochet, knit, and garden. She was always helping other people and had the gift of hospitality.
She is survived by her daughter Bonnie (John) Bankson of Lansing; two sons: Glenn and Ross (Carol) Johnson of Riverdale; six grandsons: Jack Bankson of Holland and Jeff Bankson of Kincheloe, Steven (Jessica) Johnson of Negaunee, Michael (Abby) Johnson of Big Rapids, Gary (Sarah) and Paul Johnson of Riverdale, and three grand daughters: Kathy, Christine, and Teresa Johnson of Riverdale; great-grandson: Hunter Johnson; and great-granddaughter Emily Johnson of Riverdale. And one sister, Ava McCully, several nephews, nieces, great nephews and great nieces survive her.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and eight siblings: Wesley, Harry, Charlie, and Robert, and Doris McCully; Lila Sloan, Mildred (Polly) Hancock, Norma Pugsley; and several nephews and nieces.
Funeral services were held on Tuesday, January 13, 2015 at Lux and Schnepp Funeral Home in Riverdale with Pastor Hazen Wager officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Ferris Church of Christ or Schnepp Senior Center and Rehab Center.
