Jason Scott Simmons, 21, of Franklin died Sunday, January 14, 2007, at Ruby Memorial Hospital, Morgantown, due to injuries he sustained from falling down a hillside while hiking during a camping outing in Preston County.

Mr. Simmons was born September 2, 1985, in Harrisonburg, Virginia, and was a son of David P. Simmons and Patty Dahmer Simmons of Franklin.

He graduated from Pendleton County High School in 2004 and was a junior at West Virginia University (WVU), where he was a business and finance major. He was a member of the WVU Student Grotto Caving Club and the Pendleton County Tactical Skills Team. He was also a member of the Pendleton County Rescue Squad, Brookhaven Volunteer Fire Department and the Franklin Volunteer Fire Department.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by a brother, Brian David Simmons of Franklin; and his grandmother, Hazel L. Ratliff Simmons of Franklin.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, the late Virgil Simmons and the late Joe and Velma Hedrick Dahmer.

The Revs. Carl Tribett and Sam Harper conducted the funeral at the Basagic Funeral Home in Franklin. Burial was at Cedar Hill Cemetery in Franklin.
