MT. PLEASANT - J. Fred Staker, 44, prominent farmer and stock grower, died Friday night after a lingering illness.
Mr. Staker was born in Mt. Pleasant, Oct. 26, 1889, a son of James B. and Elizabeth Fechser Staker. He was active in church and civil affairs, serving an L D S mission in the southern states from 1915 to 1917, was president of the North L D S ward elders quorum, and was a teacher and officer in the MIA and Sunday school. He served several terms as city judge and precinct judge and was actively identified with several irrigation companies. He married Chloe Carlston of Fairview in the Manti L D S temple Nov. 11, 1907.
Surviving are his widow, and a daughter and two sons; Mrs. Cleo S. Mertz and Rex C. Staker, Mount Pleasant, and Sgt. J. Dean Staker, Camp Vernon, Illinois; three grandchildren, two brothers and four sisters, Mrs. Cornelia S. Johnson, Elida Staker and J. Ben Staker, Mt. Pleasant; Mrs. Grace S. Mills, Salt Lake City; Mrs. Flossie S. Stevens, Ogden, and Dr. Ernest Staker, Corness University, Ithaca, N. Y.
