June was born Sept. 14, 1921, in Centralia, Wash. to George and Martha (Raschke) Russell.
She came to Oregon in 1926 with her family. Her father was a logger. As a child she moved from one logging camp to another before graduating from Molalla High School. She attended Monmouth College for three years and taught two years in Valsetz. She joined the Women's Army Corp serving in World War II from 1943 to 1945. She continued her education at Oregon State University, receiving her Bachelor of Science degree.
June Married Howard Melvin Hopkins in Canby June 11, 1947. She continued her teaching in Hubbard, where she and Howard started their family on the second generation farm. June finished her teaching career in Woodburn.
June enjoyed spending valued time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her hobbies included traveling, sports, reading and crafts.
The last few years of her life, she battled dementia at Marquis Care Center in Canby and remained graceful throughout the rest of her life. June will be sorely missed by her family and friends.
June is survived by her children Linda Hentsch, Beverly Hopkins, Gary Hopkins, Barbara Kahle, five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
She will be interred privately at Belle Passi Memorial Mausoleum in Woodburn.
