The funeral service for Albert “Ole” W. Olson, 90, Aberdeen, will be 2:00 p.m., Saturday, January 10, 2015 at Spitzer-Miller Funeral Home, 1111 S. Main St., with Pastor Jennifer Turick officiating. Private burial will be at Riverside Memorial Park, with military honors by Sidney L. Smith American Legion Post 24. Albert died Tuesday, January 6, at Aberdeen Health and Rehab.

Albert W. Olson, son of Robert and Minnie (Roehr) Olson was born on September 3, 1924 on the family farm. He attended Union Township Grade School and went on to graduate from Mina High School with the class of 1942. During high school Albert was selected to attend Boys State and was instrumental in forming the Mina Baseball Team. He played on the Boys State Baseball Team against the Aberdeen Legion Team. The game ended in a tie and was called due to darkness. Later in life, Albert played baseball in Ipswich for several years and played in two state tournaments. 

Albert was united in marriage to Elaine Crady on September 5, 1942 at the Presbyterian Church in Aberdeen. He went on to serve his country during WWII in the Asiatic Pacific Theatre with the US Army. He served with the 11th Corps, the 78th Engineer Battalion, the 8th Army and also the 1st Calvary 8th Engineer Combat Squadron 1st Division. Following his honorable discharge he returned home and became the 3rd generation Olson to call the family farm home. For the next 40 years Albert farmed and ranched with his brother, Harvey. 

Throughout his life, Albert served on many boards and was active in several organizations. He served on the Union Township Board for many years and the Mina Equity Elevator Board of Directors for 23 years. He also served on the Ipswich Independent School Board for 11 years and the Edmunds County FHA Board for 3 years. 

Albert was an active member of the American Legion and VFW. He served as commander of the Ipswich American Legion Post #67 for two years and Adjutant for two years. Albert was also a lifetime member of the Aberdeen VFW Post #17. 

Albert was asked in 1980 by the Farmers Elevator Association to participate in an official People To People Goodwill Mission to the Orient and the Peoples Republic of China. He was also asked to go to Washington, D.C., to testify on a Senate Agriculture Committee. 

Albert was an active member of the Presbyterian Church. He served as a Trustee at the Mina Presbyterian Church and has been a member of the Presbyterian Church since 1948. Albert and his wife loved to travel. Throughout the years they vacationed to 49 states, Canada and parts of Europe. 

Grateful for having shared Albert’s life are his wife Elaine, five daughters, Constance Blank, Victoria Olson, White, Pamela (Mike) Bruckner, Cynthia (David) Pashko and Mitzi (Tim) Dosch, and his grandchildren and great grandchildren. 

Albert was preceded in death by his parents, son-in-law Jerry Blank and brother Harvey Olson.
