Revolutionary War Soldier

William's service in the Revolutionary War included his commissioning 17 Oct 1775 as second lieutenant, Sixth Regt. "Charlotte Precinct" and on 22 Mar 1776 first lieutenant, David Sutherland's Regt., Dutchess County, NY.

Family references are made to his service in the 16th Cambridge Regt. under Col. Lewis Van Voort, Maj. James Ashton, Col. John Blair, Lt. Abraham Wright. He was with General Stark's operations against Bennington, Conn., and with General Gates at Saratoga in 1777.

In 1745 he moved with his parents to Cambridge, New York.
In 1776 he supposedly lived in Charlotte Precinct of Dutchess Co., N.Y.
In 1790 Census, he lived in Albany Co., Town of Cambridge, N.Y.
His farm was about 1 1/2 miles east of Cambridge Village in what is now White Creek.

His 1814 Will, Washington Wills, Vol 0003-0005, 1811-1824, Cambridge, 1814 Will names :
