Burial Details Unknown. Specifically: One story reports a large tomb with steps, etc. in the Old Montgomery Cemetery in Montgomery, TX. All evidence of this tomb has vanished, so this may be a tall tale as other reports say he was buried in a family cemetery on his plantation. Add to Map

Israel Worsham was born in 1820 in Alabama to Jeremiah Worsham and Catherine Landrum. He married Emily Frances Womack about 1846 probably in Montgomery County, Texas. They had at least 5 children.

Along with his father, Israel signed the petition in Oct 1837 that led the Republic of Texas to split Washington County into two separate counties along the Brazos River.

Israel served in the Republic of Texas Army between 1 Oct 1842 and 1 Jan 1843. Israel Worsham was a Captain in the Somervell Campaign against Mexico. He served under Colonel Joseph L. Bennett and was paid $276 for his service on 12 Dec 1850. He is paid an additional $65 on 08 Apr 1851 for the loss of his horse during the campaign.

Israel wrote the description for Montgomery County for The Texas Almanac for 1867. He was a member of the Montgomery Masonic Lodge #25. He was a representative of Montgomery County in the Sixth Texas Legislature between 05 Nov 1855 and 01 Sep 1856 and again in the Eleventh Texas Legislature between 06 Aug 1866 and 13 Nov 1866.
