GENEVA N BOWEN of the Mayflower Retirement Center in Winter Park, FL - she was the daughter of Ephraimand Nettie Brooker Bowen. Preceded in death by siblings, Carl, Edward, Hampton, Mabel Johns, Jessie Harris, Nellie Hall and Eula Dombaugh, surviving are nephew, Earl Harris, Sr of Kissimmee and niece, Leni Bessett of Jacksonville, FL. Geneva graduated from Woman's Hospital in Philadelphia, continued her education at Will's Eye Hospital and Kirkbrides Hospital in Philadelphia, was a staff nurse at Sheppard Enoch Pratt Hospital in Towson, MD, Franklin Institute Psychiatric Hospital in Philadelphia and returned to Will's Eye Hospital as Head Nurse Supervisor. She joined the U.S. Army Nurse Corp during WWII and at the outbreak of the Korean War, she was promoted to LTC. She retired after 23 years of service while at Walter Reed Hospital. Geneva received many recognitions including 2 battle stars. She attended the University of South Carolina, earned her BS Degree in nursing, earned her MS at Emory University, became an assistant professor at the University of SC. She returned to school to earn her PhD at the age of 70 and was invited back to the Graduate School of Nursing at the university to help masters' students write their theses. During this time, she also served as a tutor for the Greater Columbia Literacy Council helping adults learn to read and write and served as a teacher of mentally challenged children at the First Baptist Church in Columbia, SC.
