Paul Carter Whiteman
Paul Carter Whiteman, 71, of 3138 Rocky Hock Road, died Wednesday, January 7, 2015 in Duke Raleigh Hospital. Mr. Whiteman, a life-long resident of Chowan County, was born August 11, 1943 and was the son of the late Alma T. and Willietta Nixon Whiteman. The former owner and operator of Whitemans Service Center and P.W. Carter Trucking Enterprises, he was a member of Rocky Hock Baptist Church, had retired from the Center Hill-Crossroads Volunteer Fire Dept. after more than 20 years, and had served in the North Carolina National Guard. Surviving are his wife of 46 years, Nina Love Whiteman; a daughter, Shelly Whiteman Perry and husband Scott of Hampstead; a son, James Barrett Whiteman of Dallas, TX; a sister, Jeannette W. Gatch and husband Perry of Herminie, PA; and two grandsons, Evan Scott Perry and Benjamin Carter Perry. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 2:30 p.m. in Rocky Hock Baptist Church and will be officiated by Dr. James Horton. Burial will follow in Beaver Hill Cemetery. Friends may join the family Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. in Miller Funeral Home & Crematory, 735 Virginia Road, Edenton, and other times at the residence. In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to the building fund of Rocky Hock Baptist Church, 113 Rocky Hock Church Road, Edenton, NC 27932.
