Savannah - Mr. James Lawton Thigpen, 90, formerly of Savannah, Georgia, went home to be with Jesus on April 27, 2006 at University Hospital. Mr. Thigpen was born in Vidalia, Georgia on May 12, 1915 to Lawton Anthony and Flora Jackson Thigpen. He retired after 29 years at Union Camp Corporation and he was a member of the former Bull Street Church of Christ. He devoted his life to his family and serving the Lord Jesus Christ. Mr. Thigpen was preceded in death by a son, Morris Thigpen, brother; D.A. Thigpen; niece, Editha Davis. A graveside service will be held on Saturday at 2:00 pm, April 29, 2006 at Burke Memorial Gardens in Waynesboro, Georgia with Pastor Arthur Pigman, Evans Church of Christ, Evans, GA and Reverend Wayne Dixon, of Botsford Baptist Church Waynesboro, GA officiating. Pallbearers are Michael Tootle, Alan Tootle, Brannon Tootle, Rueben Rogers, Charles Black, Scott Waters, and Glendon Eshleman. The family will receive friends on Saturday, April 29, 2006 from 12:00 pm to 1:30 pm at DeLoach-Kennedy Funeral Home in Waynesboro, Georgia. Survivors include his beloved wife of 61 years, Winnerfred Kessler Thigpen; Daughter Sharon Gail Tootle (Billy) of Hephzibah; Daughter Teresa Charlene Smith (Bobby) of Atlanta; four grandchildren, Alexis Deal (Fred) of Evans, Michael Tootle (Tracy) of Hephzibah, Brent Smith ( Lisa) of Hartford Connecticut, Jennifer Dempsey (Josh) of Atlanta, seven great-grandsons; Alan, Brannon and Caden Tootle, Jack and Lawton Dempsey, Aaron and Cory Smith, and one great step-granddaughter, Kristin Holden (Brad), one niece Judy Dawson (Rhonwyn) of Hazlehurst, Georgia.
