Lifelong resident and businesswoman, lover of life and people, Lottie Olliff Johnson, 89, peacefully entered eternity on Saturday, January 10th at the Ogeechee Area Hospice.

Born February 2, 1925, in Bulloch County to Frank Aleck and Ella Mincey Olliff, young Lottie developed her entrpreneurial spirit as a Statesboro High School student in the early 1940's. With her early lessons in financial survival, she was the driving force behind pioneering the first Minit Mart, the first shopping center, and the first mobile home court in Statesboro with her husband, Grady E. Johnson. Lottie continued to own and manage the Johnson Mobile Home Court and was an innovator until the end, thinking of the next solution to the problems that she observed. If it were up to her, she would have had a Minit Mart on every corner of the region, but that was unthinkable at the time to everyone but her.

Although a shrewd businesswoman, Lottie had a "heart of gold", opening her home and her heart, showing generosity to all. She defined "customer service" and continued this attitude long after her retirement from 80-hour work weeks on her feet at the Minit Mart. Lottie loved people, and people loved Lottie. She supported GSU Eagles Athletics and the local church, tailgating on Saturday and worshiping on Sunday. After her husband of 56 years passed, she volunteered with Reba Barnes at the nursing homes and danced with multiple Shag Dance Clubs, from Savannah to the Elks Lodge and American Legion. Her energy, her "down-home humor", her smile and her laughter were infectious.

She is now dancing in heaven after confession of faith and baptism on July 4th, 2009.

Lottie Johnson is preceded in death by a son, Gary Ellis Johnson, and husband, Grady Earl Johnson. She is survived by her daughters, Jackie and Richard Varnell and Terry J. and Terry B. Joyner, and by her son, Sam O. and Mary Johnson; grandchildren, Tracey Varnell and Richie Varnell; Heather and Jon Wayne, Amy and Todd Weiser, and Ginger Johnson; Trey and Laura Joyner and Samuel and Megan Joyner; and 10 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by a sister-in-law, Eileen Olliff.

The family will receive visitors on Tuesday, January 13, 2015 from 5:00pm until 7:00pm at Joiner-Anderson Funeral Home in Statesboro.

Funeral services will follow the visitation at 7:00pm in the chapel of the funeral home with Reverends Richard Varnell and Terry Joyner officiating.

Private graveside services will be Wednesday at the Eastside Cemetery in Statesboro.
