NORTH LEWISBURG – Marion Paul Middleton, 68, of Cable, passed away Tuesday, December 30, 2014, in his home with his family by his side.
He was born September 7, 1946, in Urbana, Ohio. As a youth, he participated in 4-H, Boy Scouts and Forestry Camp. Marion was a 1964 graduate of Triad High School. After high school, he served his county in the United States Marine Corp in Vietnam, where he was wounded three times. Marion spent numerous years helping his parents on the family Christmas tree farm in Cable. He was known for his sense of humor. Marion first taught Art at Mechanicsburg High School. He then was employed by the State of Ohio for 22 years as a Carpenter Supervisor at the Ohio Expo Center where he retired.
Marion enjoyed woodworking and spending time outdoors and he took great pride in his garden. He was a member of the Cable United Methodist Church, where he carried on his father's legacy of frying eggs at the church tent during the Champaign County Fair. He was also a member of the Mechanicsburg Eagles #3974 and the Mechanicsburg American Legion Post 238. Marion is survived by his wife, Toby Louise (Evans) Middleton, whom he married, March 27, 1970, his daughters, Melissa S. Sizemore, Heather S. Toops, Olivia J. (Bob) Newland, Amanda Downey, grandchildren, Jennifer E. and Gregory M. Sizemore, Sidney L., A. J., Shelby S. and Sophia M. Toops, Briar R.T. Newland, John L. and Abbigail G. Downey, Jaycie Gerrard and Cameron and Callie M. Jones, his brother and sister, Jack (Janet) Middleton and Jane (David) Runyan, mother-in-law, Mary Evans, and brother-in-law, Homer (Joyce) Evans, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents, John E. and Lucille E. (Gregg) Middleton, sister, Zita Marie Middleton, father-in-law, Leonard Evans, and son-in-law, Sean M. Sizemore.
A gathering of family and friends will be held 4-7 p.m. on Friday, January 2, 2014, in the FRESHWATER, MCDONALD & VERNON FUNERAL HOME, N. Lewisburg.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, January 3, 2014, in the funeral home with Rev. Mimi Ault officiating. Burial will follow in Jenkins Chapel Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Cancer Association of Champaign County, P.O. Box 38125, Urbana, Ohio 43078.
