Rita Marie Horton
11/10/1957 - 6/18/2010

Rita Marie was a ray of sunshine on God's good Earth. She was smart, funny and always generous. Rita never forgot a face or a name and made sure to greet everyone with sincere warmth. She had a smile that would light up a room and always made time for fun. Rita was badly injured on Christmas Eve 2006, but still smiled and said 'thank you' to the many nurses and doctors involved in her care. And during this time, she found the Lord again and helped others to see Him as well. She fought hard to recover and stay with us, but cancer was just one thing too many. She was and is an inspiration.
Rita spent most of her life in the mountains and hills of Placer County and lived in Foresthill with her dear friend John Barnes. She worked in the retail and grocery business but really loved mining and digging for crystals near the American River. She could finish a New York Times crossword puzzle in 20 minutes, enjoyed seeing family and friends, reading books and gardening. She loved animals, especially her cat Trill.
Rita is survived by her mother Lita White, step-father James 'Whitey' White, brother Jim Horton and family, sister Marguerite (Tom) Gentry and family, cousins Rexanna Crawford and Cindy Brady, companion John Barnes, sisters in law Liz Daniels and Cecilia Baltrunas and many friends. Rita is reunited in God's house with her father Joseph Horton, Sr., brother Joseph Horton, Jr. and her Michael.
There will be a celebration of Rita's life at Foresthill Memorial Park on Sunday, July 11, 2010 at 1 P.M. She was a wonderful woman who will be sorely missed.
