Nellie Rachel Norton Murphy, age 85, of Paula Drive, Lawrenceburg, widow of George Alford Murphy, died Tuesday, October 31, 2006 at her residence.
She was born March 9, 1921 in Spencer County to the late Benjamin H. and Sara Otis Goodlett Norton.
She was a homemaker and a member of Hilltop Church of God.
Survivors include: four sons, Walter Hahn, Taylorsville, Rodney (Wanda) Murphy, Sr., John (Sheila) Murphy, and James (Vicky) Murphy, all of Lawrenceburg; three daughters, Rachel (William) Robinson, Burgin, Sue (Clyde) Ritchey, and Edie (Nick) Lewis, both of Lawrenceburg; six brothers, Charles (wanda) Norton, Columbus, IN, Paul (Nellie) Norton, Edgar Jay (Linda) Norton, and Jackie Norton, all of Taylorsville, Alvin (Marcella) Norton, Edingburg, IN, and Herman (Lisa) Norton, Chaplin; five sisters, Edith (John) Patton, Mildred Nation, Marilyn Hill, Betty Ruth (Dink) Douglas, and Linda Mae Ballinger, all of Taylorsville; 17 grandchildren, and 21 great-grandchildren; two special friends, Juanita Siers and JoAnn Kincaid.
She was preceded in death by three sons, Ben and Wayne Murphy, and William Eddie Hahn; daughter, Gerdine Murphy; two granddaughters, Laura Murphy, and Sara Murphy; five brothers, Tommy, Johnny, Dillard, Joe, and Freeman Norton; two sisters, Margie Stevens and Virginia Nation.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, November 3, at the Gash Memorial Chapel, Lawrenceburg, with Bro. Don Carter and Bro. Greg Taylor. Burial will be in Murphy Cemetery in Anderson County.
Visitation will be 12 – 9 p.m. Thursday, and after 8 a.m. Friday.
Casketbearers will be Gene Hahn, Dannie Robinson, Nathan Nichols, Rodney Murphy, Jr., Joshua Bailey, Joe Murphy, David Cubert, and J. T. Murphy.
Honorary bearers will be Don Murphy, Chris Murphy, Rusty Taylor, Tony Robinson, and Anthony Cook.
