Joe Bill Matthews, 86, of Asheboro, died Wednesday, December 31, 2014 at Randolph Hospital in Asheboro.

A funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 pm on Saturday, January 3, 2015 at First Wesleyan Church in Randleman, with Rev. Don Hurlburt and Rev. Earl Lilly officiating. Burial will follow at Randolph Memorial Park.

Mr. Matthews was born in Forsyth County, NC on June 1, 1928. He was the son of the late Joseph Hugh Matthews and Betty West Matthews. He retired from Black and Decker and then worked part-time at Ridge Funeral Home. He was a member of First Wesleyan Church in Randleman and helped with the Randleman Ministerial Association's 5th Sunday night services. Mr. Matthews also delivered Meals on Wheels and enjoyed visiting with shut-ins. He enjoyed going fishing and playing golf.

Surviving are wife, Alma Lilly Matthews, of the home; daughter, Pam M. Trull and husband, Mark, of Randleman; son, Randall B. Matthews, of Randleman; sister, Thelma Duggins and husband Junior, of Mayodan NC; grandchildren, Kara McLean, McKenzie Matthews, Emily Matthews, Mason Matthews; step grandchildren, John Trull and Nick Trull; and step great grandchildren, Garrett Trull and Marshall Trull.

The family will receive friends from 12:30 pm to 1:45 pm on Saturday, January 3, 2015 at the church.
