Frances Dargan Clarkson age 90 beloved wife of the late James S. H. Clarkson died on January 6, 2015 after a brief illness.

She was born in Darlington, SC, daughter of the late Benton DuBose Dargan and Mildred Ervin Dargan. She was a graduate of St. John's High School, Darlington, SC and Montreat College, Montreat, NC. She was a very active member of The Church of the Holy Comforter in Sumter where she taught Sunday school and managed the infant nursery for 12 years. She owned Gingerbread Day Care Center, worked at the Tuomey Hospital Canteen with the Junior League of Sumter, and she organized and taught 4 year-old kindergarten at St. Christopher's Episcopal Church of Sumter. She was a member of the Stateburg Literary and Music Society, and the Ladies Chapter of the Readers Club of The Church of the Holy Comforter.

She is survived by three sons of Columbia, SC, of Sumter, and of Kingsville, TX; two daughters of Pawleys Island, SC; three grand children; and three great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband; two sons Evander Ervin Clarkson, and Robert Barnwell Clarkson; one brother Ervin Dargan; and four sisters Sara Williamson, Mildred Dargan, Bess Barron, and Edwina Boatwright.

A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, January 13, 2015 at 4 o'clock in the afternoon at The Church of the Holy Comforter in Sumter with the Rev. Charles Walton and the Rev. Marcus Kaiser officiating. Interment will be in the church's Memorial Ash Garden which she helped to found.

The family will receive friends in the social hall of the church following the services.
