Rich, Carrie A. (Redding) Cowell – 1986

Funeral services for Carrie A. Rich, 81, of 216 North High, Kirksville, Mo., was held at 1:30, March 24, 1986, in the chapel of Davis-Playle Funeral Home, Kirksville. The Rev. Walter Simpson, pastor of the First Christian Church, Kirksville, conducted the services. Music was provided by Judy Ellis, singing, “How Great Thou Art” and “Amazing Grace.” She was accompanied by Julia Mollick, organist. Burial was in Bible Grove Cemetery.

Mrs. Rich died at 9:57 Tuesday night, March 18, 1986, in Grim-Smith Hospital, Kirksville. Death was unexpected and attributed to an apparent heart attack.

Born April 19, 1904, in Scotland County, she was the daughter of Willard and Odessa Coleman Redding. On January 12, 1921, in Memphis she was married to Raymond Cowell who preceded her in death on December 28, 1950. On December 21, 1955, in Kirksville, she was married to Clarence B. Rich who preceded her in death on October 17, 1979. Also preceding her in death were one step-daughter, Isabella Schroder; six brothers and one nephew, Leonard Redding.

Surviving are on step-granddaughter, Joan Steinmiller; three step-great-grandsons, Jim, Jeff and John Steinmiller and nieces and nephews, including, Bernice Hathaway.

Mrs. Rich was reared in Scotland County. She moved to Greentop where she and her husband operated a restaurant. In 1944 she moved to Kirksville to make her home.

Mrs. Rich was a member of the First Christian Church and the Friends Sunday School Class.

Bearers were Vic Durbin, Kenneth Sykes, Thomas Sutton, Bill Murdock, Stanley Ambrosia and G. E. “Shag” Grosenickle.
