James Robert Vice was born January 2, 1921, to the late Dallas and Gladys (Seager) Vice in Clinton County, Indiana. He passed from this life on January 3, 2015, at St. Mary Healthcare Center in Lafayette. He attended Mulberry grade and high school.

Jim was a WWII Army veteran who served as a medical corpsman from August 1942 until December 1945 in various European campaigns. After his discharge, he worked for Kentland Dairy Products, in Mulberry; was the town marshal and later worked at Fairfield Manufacturing. Jim belonged to American Legion Post 11, Lafayette and was a previous member of Mulberry Masonic Lodge #618.

His first marriage was to Bonnie Bogan in 1942, and they had five children. Surviving are one son, Harold L. (Suzanne) Vice of Mulberry; one daughter, Debbie Rees of Monticello, IN; and a son-in-law, Michael Padgett of rural Frankfort. He was preceded in death by three daughters, Marilyn Galvin, Colette Vice and Jill Padgett. He is also survived by a brother and sister-in-law, Howard and Ivaloo Vice of Lafayette, and was preceded in death by two siblings, Betty Garriott and Dallas Vice Jr.

His second marriage was to Alice Katherine Schnaible Payne in 1969 and she had four children. Surviving are a stepdaughter, Kathleen Ashley of San Jose, CA, and two stepsons, Gary (Margaret) Payne of Des Moines, IA, and Gale Payne of Lafayette. He was proceeded in death by a stepson, Lynn Payne.

He is survived by thirteen grand and step-grand children; twenty-two great and great step-grand children and two great-great grand children.

A memorial service will be held later this spring at the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, the Rev. Dr. David M. Doane officiating; internment will be held at Tippecanoe Memory Gardens.
