Mrs. Geneva R. Mitchell, age 95 of Gainesville, Georgia passed away Monday, January 5, 2015.
Visitation will be held at Memorial Park North Riverside Chapel. Burial will be in Morrow Cemetery, Bruce Fields will officiate. A celebration of her life will be held at the First Baptist Church Chapel. Dr. Bill Coates will officiate.
Geneva was born October 23, 1919 the daughter of the late Thomas and Eula (Sharpton) Rutledge. She was dedicated to her family, her friends, and to helping those in need. Her infectious smile will be long remembered and her generosity and strength will continue to be an inspiration. She was a longtime Red Cross Volunteer in Clayton County and active member of Morrow First Baptist Church before moving to Gainesville in 1986, where she continued her volunteer work with the Red Cross and volunteered at Lanier Park Hospital until she was 89. She also volunteered at Guest House and the Family Life Center. She was an active member at First Baptist Church and loved her Winsome Sunday School Class.
She was preceded in death by her parents, brother, Edmond, sisters, Annie, Polly, Alice, Montine and Margaret, her husband Chester, and daughter, Paula Elwell.
She is survived by her daughter, Cheryl Christian (Bob); grandsons, Greg (Kim) Elwell, Brian (Katie) Elwell and Erin Christian; granddaughter Kim Christian, great-grandchildrenCorey, Austin, Emily, Kobe, Jack, Carson and Zoe, her sisters, Dot and Syble, brother, Jack and many nieces and nephews.
Geneva spent her life giving to other in a meanful way. She was grateful for all she could do and everything she received. The family asks that in lieu of flowers donations be made to Good News Clinics, P.O.
