Norma Jeanne was the first of three children born to Stephen and Palmi Petix on February 23, 1939 in Detroit, MI.

She attended Kingswood School-Cranbrook and graduated in 1957. When her parents moved back to Detroit from Birmingham, MI, she literally married the boy next door, Robert Scullen in August of 1961. They both attended the University of Detroit. Norma graduated in 1962 with a degree in History and Education. Norma was the first woman on either side of the family to finish college.

She began a brief teaching career at St. Regis grade school, in Bloomfield Hills, MI which was interrupted by the birth of her first child, Mary Ellen. Two more daughters followed, Stephanie and Lynn.

Norma moved around the country as her husband's career took the family to San Diego, Boston, back to Detroit, then on the East Grand Rapids, then to Pittsford, NY near her Rochester, NY relatives. In 1987, Norma finally returned home and settled in Troy. Eventually, Norma and Bob parted ways. While attending a Kingswood School reunion, Norma reconnected with her high school friend, Dan Burgess and they have been together ever since. The next 23 years were spent splitting their time between Grayling, MI in the summer and Pine Island, FL in the winter.

Norma was always caring, loving, generous, and truly gracious. She took care of both her ailing parents in their final years and enjoyed volunteering for a variety of causes throughout her life.

Along with Dan, Norma is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Mary Ellen Scullen (Andrew Kulemeka), Stephanie Trombly (Bill) and Lynn Gray (David). She was the cherished grandmother of Owen, Moyenda, Chikondi Kulemeka. Sister of Steve Petix (Mary Ellen) and Jim Petix (Jane). Loving aunt of many nieces and nephews.
