Laurance Gay of Rockport, Republican committeeman in Pike County for many years, died Sunday evening at Illini Hospital here. Mr. Gay, 82, was a retired farmer. He was born at Rockport, Feb. 13, 1890, son of James C. and Josephine Horton Gay. His wife, Phila Welch Gay, survives. Also surviving is a son, Joe of New Canton, and a brother, General Hobart Gay of Texas. Five brothers and sisters preceded him in death. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the United Methodist Church in Rockport with the Rev. Ronald Eakers officiating. Burial will be in Samuel Taylor Cemetery. Friends may call at the Sutter Funeral Home after 3 pm today.
