Jonathan Parker Smith enlisted in Company G of the 10th Pennsylvania Reserves (39th PA) as a First Sergeant

May 10, 1862 - Promoted to 1st Lieutenant, Co. G
May 17, 1862 - Promoted to Captain, Co. G

On December 13, 1862 during the attack of the Pennsylvania Reserves against Prospect Hill at Fredericksburg, Captain Smith fell severely wounded. He died on January 6, 1863 at Seminary Hospital in Georgetown, Washington D. C.
