Confederate States of America: 2nd & 4th Kentucky Infantry, became "chief musician" with 1st Tenn. Infantry (Confederate service inscribed on his grave marker in Maine).

He was a musician and composer who was associated with the Marine Corps. band at Newport, RI, as well as theatre orchestras in Louisville, KY and Boston. He played the violin and cornet, and taught music in Louisville and New England schools.
