In Brook, on a farm one century ago
Dale Wyman Brewer saw light
Carrie and Frank were thrilled with a son
And his quiet long life took flight.

High school was over in '28
Business College, then work at Purdue
Onward toward new adventures
With a move to South Bend in '32

The restaurant business is special to Dale
For it led to the aisle
A waiter then a short order cook
Made $4.00 a week worthwhile

Thank goodness Pearl missed her sister Mary
And left Akron for a stay
Two sisters sharing lunch & laughs
A cook who glared her way

The stage was set on Mary's couch
When Pearl questioned his devotion
"Don't you think we should get married, Dale?"
He said, "Sure" with sweet emotion.

So on the first of September in '35
This great love story started
From Al Ruth Diner to Marietta Street
Pearl and Dale then never parted

Three daughters brought six babies
Six grandchildren brought such joy
Eight great grandkids to love you
Now a great great girl and boy

Dale built his house on Yoder Street
The work of his own hands
But at least today he stays inside
For all his bodily demands

Defense work kept him stateside
When planes of war were flown
From Associates to Allied
Dale provided for his own

In '75 Dale retired
And helped Harley work the land
Lawn chair chats with Raymond
Cigar dangling in his hand

Dale had a soft spot for this garden
Straw hat bobbing in the sun
"Fruit cups made in China"
Meals on Wheels is a good program when the day's done

Dale is a son and a brother
A husband and a dad
A grandpa and a cousin
A best friend to be had

There is much to be celebrated
On this remarkable day
Like the moment of truth long ago
When the raging bull just walked away

We remember the pulley rides
From the days when we were small
How we flew with ease through the air
Grandpa, we cherish it all

Most people count their life in years
But numbers tell no story
The age wave doesn't hold the truth
The strong spirit or the glory

Dale has sailed into 100 years
But the gift is ours this day
There is youth living in his heart
And his wisdom here to stay

There have been 100 birthdays
And 100 gifts of light
100 loving birthday songs
To his family's delight

It's our annual excuse to say
Much more than "you're our treasure"
You are our gentle loving dad & grandpa
We love you beyond all measure
