Joy died December 18, 2014 at her home in Houston, Texas. She was born on March 18, 1936 in Belton, Texas to Austin and Jean Knight. She was raised in Belton and was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Belton. She graduated Belton High School in 1953 and The University of Texas in 1957 with a degree in elementary education. She moved to Houston in 1963.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert W. Hancock in, 1999. Survivors include her two sons: Mark Hancock of Bronxville, NY and Eric H. Hancock of Houston, TX; and three grandchildren: Frederic, Joan and Wyatt.
